Wayne’s Journey to Independence

In 2025, Wayne—a resident of Aniline Street in Oil Springs—achieved a long-held dream: living independently while staying connected to his community.

A strong self-advocate, Wayne had expressed his desire for a quieter, more private space without leaving Oil Springs, where he’s built deep community ties. Thanks to recent renovations at Aniline Street, Wayne now has his own apartment at the front of the residence—a space to call his own.

He is pictured here with his cat Sophie.

Wayne remains an active part of the community: he’s a Legion member, hosts a weekly coffee group, participates in Remembrance Day ceremonies, and is a regular at the local library. Now, he enjoys the best of both worlds—independence and connection.

Wayne’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people are heard, supported, and empowered to make choices about their own lives.

With the right opportunities, people with developmental disabilities can live independently, stay connected, and thrive. Let’s keep building a more inclusive world—one person at a time.
